Surviving an OTB Internship

Following up on the long-running OTB internship tradition, the team had the honor and the pleasure to host another intern, Alexandra Vázquez Mera, in the Brussels office. Having joined the office for 4 months, Alexandra has recently completed the programme with numerous tasks and experiences under her belt.

So how was the experience, being involved in the daily activities of Out of the Box International?

Alexandra had the chance to learn about EU-funded projects and social media communications. She claims to have gained a lot throughout the internship. Overall, she got involved in the different stages of project development, from the research phase to the implementation of the actions. At the same time, she learned how important clear communication is when you are part of a team.

How does she intend to use it further in her professional life?

According to her, working in programmes related to youth inclusion and participation has increased her desire to become even more active in the youth field. For young people it is clear that we are facing a climate crisis, but their opinion tends not to be taken into account in decision-making processes.

An inspiring quote:

If you are interested in a field and you are unsure whether to start in that world or not, don’t be afraid to take the first step. You may feel unprepared but remember that you will learn all the skills you need on the way. The only thing that could happen when you take a chance is that you get richer in experience.

While Alexandra is saying goodbye to the internship stage of life in the office, this is far from goodbye to Out of the Box – stay tuned for news!
