YEU’s PM4I Meeting in Sabadell

Social exclusion remains one of the biggest challenges in our societies, starting at the neighbourhood quarters in the cities where often young people live surrounded by the invisible borders defined by culture, religion or traditions, additionally influenced by the gentrification processes that are irreversibly changing the dynamics, for better or worse. Within the context of a rapidly shifting society, with upheavals in the labour market, the social and political sphere, and the very physical environment, it is clear that challenging social exclusion requires new tools. These tools must be collaboratively developed by broad sets of stakeholders and must provide moments, resources, and structures for the empowerment of the individual by society for active participation in social, political, and economic life and society.

The purpose of the project Place Making 4 Inclusion – reviving active citizenship for reshaping the societies is to empower youth work providers and youth organisations by using the placemaking methodology and practices to ensure social inclusion of young people of diverse backgrounds in jointly shaping the local communities.

Placemaking 4 Inclusion (PM4I) is a project aiming to empower youth work providers and youth organisations by using the placemaking methodology and practices to ensure social inclusion of young people of diverse backgrounds in jointly shaping the local communities.

The project gathers organisations from Belgium, Germany, Greece, Italy, Norway and Spain in a multi-talented consortium, which is working on the tools to combat social exclusion and to involve young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to influence and actively participate in shaping the communities they live in and consequently in shaping society.

In the scope of PM4I, the project partner’s had their first Transnational Partner’s Meeting between the 17th and 20th of October in Sabadell, Spain, hosted by ESTEL, our local partner.

During the meeting, we went over the work done so far and worked on the finalization of some of the project deliverables in a truly cooperative manner. Furthermore, the group also had a chance to think and brainstorm about the upcoming project outputs, having now a clearer idea of what we want to achieve through them.

This is a truly creative group and it is important for YEU to be part of a project where we can not only contribute with our knowledge and experience, but also learn so much about the topic of placemaking. It was great being in Sabadell with our partner. We’ll see them next time in Oslo. Stay tuned!
